Gregg Burns is an independent modern hard rock artist whose music fuses the visceral power of contemporary hard rock with the raw grit of the blues and the rhythmic swagger of hard funk. His precise compositions, intricate guitar arrangements, and layered vocal harmonies are driven by heavy grooves and soulful vocals, often exploring darker tones and lyrical themes.
A rare presence in the hard rock space, Burns writes, sings, and performs most of the instruments on his recordings while also producing and mixing all his music. Beyond his solo work, he is an in-demand collaborator—performing, producing, and mixing for both major-label projects and independent artists.
Critics and fans describe his music as "timeless," "electric," "intense," and "high-energy." His songs have earned multiple international nominations across major independent music awards, and his debut release, Head, captured CD Baby/Just Plain Folks’ award for Best Hard Rock Album, cementing his reputation as a standout creator with a unique vision.
The follow-up, In Broad Daylight, reinforced his status in the independent music world, with three of its songs nominated for JPF’s Best Hard Rock Song, and the album itself earning another nomination for Best Hard Rock Album.
His latest record, Mettle, expands his sonic palette even further, blending influences from the Beatles, Texas-style blues, pop, and anthemic 70s grooves to create his signature interpretation of modern hard rock.
Burns continues to write and record new material, including music for TV and film placements, with more releases planned throughout 2026.

Sound of the Blue Heart
Burns also spent five years as musical director for Los Angeles-based dark gothic pop band Sound of the Blue Heart. Originally joining as a touring guitarist and backing vocalist, he went on to co-produce their 2009 album Wind of Change with lead singer and songwriter Johnny Indovina (Human Drama).
The album was praised by LA critics as "a masterpiece" and "one of the year's best," and led to featured performances across Los Angeles, Orange County, and Northern California. Multiple tours of Mexico also followed, including sold-out shows in and around Mexico City, home to one of the band's most passionate and enduring fan bases.
Burns's artistic range shines throughout Wind of Change: sultry, Spanish-flavored passages, languid slide guitar, and beautifully intricate fingerpicked lines are balanced by crunching rock rhythms and soaring leads. Beyond guitar, backing vocals, and co-production credits, Burns also contributed keyboards, harmonica, and mandolin, further shaping the album's rich musical landscape.
His tenure with the band also included appearances on the album Beauty?… and the Mexico-only release The Best of Johnny Indovina: Blue Heart Years, as well as Indovina's solo album Trials of the Writer—marking a five-year chapter of touring, recording, and creative collaboration.
